Troy

Troy is a city in and the county seat of Doniphan County, Kansas, United States with a population of approximately 1,010.

Troy was first platted in 1855 and named after the ancient Greek city of Troy. The first post office was established in 1857 but it wasn’t until 1860 that the settlement was incorporated as a city.

 Some notable citizens of Troy include:

  • Cloe Gartner:  American novelist
  • Charles “Buffalo” Jones: American frontiersman, farmer, rancher, hunter, and conservationist who cofounded Garden City, Kansas.
  • Charles Evans Whittaker: Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1957 to 1962
