Derek Moody, a representative from the Atchison based, nonprofit organization Tempered Steel, will be giving a presentation at Highland Community College in the Culbertson Auditorium on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 1 pm.
Derek Moody was twice deployed to Iraq. During his most recent deployment, he received injuries that led to his medical retirement. Due to his valor, he received the following medals, commendations, and badges: Purple Heart (3 times),Army Commendation Medal with a“V” device, Army Commendation Medals (5 times), Army Achievement Medal (6 times), Noncommissioned Officer medal, Iraqi Medal (4 times), Korean Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (2 times), National Defense Service Medal,Army Service Medal, Armed Forced Expeditionary Medal (3 times),Ranger Tab, Air Borne Badge, Air Assault Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, and Expert Infantry Badge.

This presentation is connected to an interdisciplinary service learning project that the college is doing in partnership with Tempered Steel. The presentation is open to the entire college and local communities.
