Feed Store Cafe is named ‘Best Pie’ on Highway 36 in Doniphan County, KS

TROY, KS — The US Highway 36 Association is pleased to announce the winners of our “Best Pie on 36” Contest. Voting for the contest was open from January 15 to February 15 on the US Highway 36 Association Website. Each county located on Highway 36 in Kansas had its own poll which citizens and visitors could vote on. One winner was chosen from each of the counties creating the list of the 13 Best Pie Places on 36. The winners will receive a certificate as well recognition on the US Highway 36 Association Website and Facebook page.

The winner for Doniphan County is The Feed Store Cafe, 109 S Main St, Troy, KS 66087, 785-985-3777 and on Facebook. The Feed Store Cafe has a full breakfast and lunch menu, desserts including a different variety of pies daily, lunch specials and to-go ordering available. They are open Tuesday-Friday 6:30 am – 1:30 pm and Saturday 6:30-11 am.

Donna Smith, owner, main cook and operator runs the restaurant and credits her success to her team of family members who work there with her including sisters Terri Hegarty, Barbara Winkel, Mary Marriott, Virginia Winder and Becky Winchell, cousin Mary Beth Grable and granddaughter Paisleigh Smith.

Doniphan County Economic Development Director and US Highway 36 Association in Kansas board member, Leah B. Johnson said, “The Feed Store Cafe is always bustling, breakfast or lunch, sunshine or rain. It comes as no surprise that they would receive this award as locals love Donna’s home cooked meals and pie.”

This is the second contest of this sort that the Highway 36 Association has put on, the first was the “Best Burger on 36” contest held in 2019. Kirkwood & Co. in Highland, KS won for Doniphan County.
