Leah B. Johnson, Doniphan County Economic Development Director, was nominated and is a winner of the inaugural Kansas Department of Commerce’s NEXTGEN Under 30 in the tourism category. NEXTGEN Under 30 recognizes and encourages the next generation of innovative, creative, and inspiring individuals who push the boundaries in various categories of endeavor. Awardees are selected based upon their participation in and contribution to their communities. A panel of respected business and civic leaders serve as judges.
Johnson was only one of three winners in the Tourism category, out the 27 categories, tourism was the best fit for Economic Development. She, along with the other 200 winners statewide, was invited to a “Day at the Capitol” in Topeka on October 3 and met with Lieutenant Governor David Toland and was welcomed by a panel of speakers. The winners, as well as their family, friends or coworkers, are invited to attend an awards and dinner banquet in December where they will be formally celebrated.
“I was truly honored and humbled to be nominated and selected to receive this award,” Johnson said. “I hope it shows that people recognize that there is positive momentum in Doniphan County,” she continued.
Congratulations Leah!
