Maternal Child Health Home Visiting Program
Home visitors provide in-home interventions such as education, support and referrals to other community services. Maternal Child Health Home Visitors would like to visit you before your child is born to help you have the healthiest pregnancy possible.
Who is Eligible?
Maternal Child Health Home Visitor Services are available to all families in Doniphan County regardless of race, ethnicity, financial status, or legal residency including:
- Women of childbearing age
- Pregnant women, mothers, and their babies
- Infants and children to age 1
The Visitor can help you with:
- Stopping behaviors that can hurt your growing baby (smoking, drinking alcohol, or other drugs)
- Finding a doctor
- Good nutrition
- Help you with how to breastfeed your baby
- Install Infant car safety seats and teach you how to properly use them
- Planning for child care, if needed
After you and baby are home, the home visitor will schedule a visit at your convenience soon after your baby is born in case you have questions or need help with:
- Your recovery after having a baby
- Baby care
- Breastfeeding
- Nutrition for you and your baby
- Regular health checks for your baby
- Family planning
- Immunizations for you and baby
- Expected infant development
- Understanding a baby’s or child’s behavior
- Change in the family with a baby
- Locating agencies / programs that can assist you and your family grow a healthy family
- Help with preventing infant and toddler injury/death by providing baby-proofing items to your family for free
