Established in 1965, the Doniphan County Planning and Zoning Office is responsible for formulating comprehensive plans relating to zoning and subdivision of land to promote the health, safety and general welfare of Doniphan County, Kansas. The Planning and Zoning staff consists of a Zoning Administrator who advises residents and county commissioners on zoning regulations and compliance, building permits, acreage requirements, as well as developing state and federal grant funding proposals.

Requests for zoning changes must be done during a Public Hearing with a seven member Planning Commission, all of whom are residents of the county. The Planning Commission meets the second Wednesday of each month.
